Cervera dresses up for Carnival

As every year, the traditional Carnival Parade has filled the streets of Cervera with people of all ages dressed up with the most original costumes.

This year, the event took place the 18th of February on the city streets, and more than 400 people participated in a total of 8 “comparses”.
The parade was headed with the Carnival King and some scarecrow, from the local theatre company Greep Teatre. It was followed by the music of the Bombollers, that plays percussion, and the “comparses”.
They walked through the city centre until the sports hall, where the Carnival King made a speech, and then some representatives of the city hall gave the prizes to the best costumes. The first prize was for Josep Arques School, where some of its students were dressed up as pencils; followed by “Agrupament Escolta i Guia Coll de les Savines”, who were dressed as "jack-in-the-boxes",  and “Coral infantil Nova Cervera”, who took in a western theme.
Finally, the party ended with a dinner with all the participants and music.

Aquelarre

Aquelarre is one of the most important events in Cervera.

We celebrate Aquelarre the 4th weekend of August. And it starts onTuesday since Sunday, but the last year, the organitzation decided to start Aquelarre on Wednesday since Saturday because the Wednesday events are for local people (Cervera people).
During these days, lots and lots of people came to the city to enjoy this celebration. The last Aquelarre was the 34th, and in the event they participated lots of organitzations (bombollers, carranquers, band tokades...). These organitzations are own of Cervera, and every year they participate, it's a tradition. In addition Aquelarre is about whiches, and for its reason Aquelarre has a touch of magic.
To conclude, Aquelarre is one of the events that until you die you have to see it.

Welcome to Sant Magí

Since XVI, generation after generation, the people from Cervera host one of the oldest traditions in Catalonia: The celebration of Sant Magí

It takes place on the 19th of August and hundreds of people collaborate in helping the coordinators and taking part. It’s promoted by the people who live in the neighborhood, which has the same name as the event.
This celebration is very successful in all the country and very funny for the people who participate because there are a lot of activities for the young ones: like jokes and sports; and other ones for the older ones: like dinners or walks. However, the most popular act is when the people go to house to house and through the street, with decorated donkeys, giving miraculous water from the Sant Magí Brufaganya’s hermitage.
Fortunately, the solidarity permits continue this tradition until now; hopefully, it can be repeated for many years.
